The AVCA has announced their week two AVCA Player of the Week in Penn State’s Haleigh Washington after helping her team to an undefeated record on the road. The Nittany Lions travelled to College Station, Texas to compete against then-#1 Stanford and Texas A&M.
In total for the week, Washington played in nine sets hitting .500 on the week with an average of 2.44 kills per set. In addition, Washington blocked an average of 1.44 balls per set while also racking up 5.00 points per set. Her contributions to the team helped Penn State rocket up to the #3 position in the AVCA poll and #2 in the VolleyMob poll.
Against #1 Stanford, Washington slammed down 10 kills on 16 swings with no errors for a hitting percentage of .625, the highest on the team. In addition, she posted one assist, three digs and seven blocks (one solo and six assists) in the four set win.
The Nittany Lions had to fight through five sets to take down Texas A&M, with Washington contributing 12 kills on 24 swings with two errors for a .417 hitting clip. Washington also added one ace, one dig and six blocks (one solo, five block assist).
Up next for the Nittany Lions is the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge where they will take on Colorado and a rematch of Stanford.
