The 3rd-ranked Pepperdine Waves will begin defense of their West Coast Conference beach volleyball title on Friday as the #1 seed, and junior Corinne Quiggle says the team has set its sights on national glory.

In a pre-tournament interview on Thursday, Quiggle said “I have confidence in our team. I think everybody is stepping up…we’re playing for our seniors, their last shot, and we have it all in our hearts that we want to win this year. I know that everybody feels so confident, and if we all come together as a team, I think we could do really, really well.”

The tournament will be held in Santa Monica, which is about 30 minutes down the coast from Pepperdine’s Malibu home. Quiggle says that familiarity with the wind conditions and the sand used at the championship site gives them an advantage heading into the tournament.

As for their final week of preparations, Quiggle says that the after several weeks of travel, the Waves have used their time at home to focus on their technical fundamentals, so that when it comes time to compete, they’re working from a solid foundation.
