University of Santo Tomas star spiker EJ Laure made her first public appearance this Saturday since revealing that she will miss this season due to a shoulder injury, as she watched her team’s game against current champions De La Salle University Lady Spikers, according to Camille Naredo of Abs.cbn.com. .
The sudden news of her season-ending injury gave rise to a lot of social media rumors, with fans speculating on a plethora of conspiracy theories regarding the fact, from Laure hiding a supposed pregnancy, from being suspended due to getting failing grades in school. She attended Saturday’s match with her right arm in a sling and was was quick to discuss the backlash, making it clear that all rumors were false:
All these rumors are false. I can not prevent people from expressing their opinions, even if they are wrong. I hurt my shoulder last year, had sessions of physiotherapy, but at the end the pain always came back, so my doctors and I decided to completely recover it.
Laure is a former UAAP Freshman of the year and has always been among one of her conference’s top scorers. She was also a part of the Philippine youth team that participated at the 2015 Asian Women’s U23 Volleyball Championship. Professionally, Laure made her debut for the Foton Tornadoes in the E2016 PSL All-Filipino Conference where her team ended as a runner-up and claimed the back-to-back Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix Conference title the same year.
