MKS Bedzin has announced in its official website that it has fired coach Stelio DeRocco and assistant Rafał Murczkiewicz. DeRocco began working with Będzin at the beginning of January 2016, having signed a two-year contract. He left the team sitting in PlusLiga’s 13th spot with a 7-14 record, having won its last game more than a month ago. Here is the team’s official statement:

“On February 20, Stelio DeRocco ceased to act as a coach for volleyball players from MKS Będzin. The Canadian coach led the team from January 2016. In addition, Rafał Murczkiewicz will no longer be the assistant trainer. The Management Board of MKS Będzin would like to thank Stelio DeRocco and Rafał Murczkiewicz for their work and contribution to the development of the team.”

Dutchman Gido Vermeulen was announced as DeRocco’s replacement. The 53-year-old Vermeulen is the current coach of the Netherlands Men’s national team, having also coached the women’s squad from 2012 to 2014 and the Spanish Women’s national team from 2008 to 2012. At the club level, he coached mostly women’s teams, with highlights to Italy’s now extinct INN Napoli (1999) and Spain’s Tenerife (2001).

“Dutchman Gido Vermeulen, with extensive experience of coaching at a representative level, became the trainer of the FIVB Będzińskiego MKS-U. Good luck! ?”

“Stelio Derocco is no longer the coach of our team! Thank you for your work and your contribution to the development of your team. In addition, the function of assistant coach will no longer be held by Rafał Murczkiewicz.”
