- 21-18, 17-21, 15-12
- Prudel/Fijalek advance to play Alison/Bruno Schmidt (Brazil) at 3:45 PM Toronto time
Poland continued to have a hot hand at this year’s World Tour Finals, progressing to a 4-1 record overall as a country so far.
The latest win came from the pair of Mariusz Prudel and Grzegorz Fijalek, who had to play their way out of the round of 16 early in the day on Saturday.
It was a thunderous spike by Prudel that sealed the win for Poland in a tight 3rd set.

Lucena/Dalhausser (USA) def. Virgen/Ontiveros (Mexico) 2-0
- 21-17, 21-14
- Lucena/Dalhausser advance to play their countrymates John Hyden and Tri Bourne at 3:45 Toronto time
It will be an all-American quarterfinal on Saturday afternoon after Nick Lucena and Phil Dalhausser played their way through the round of 16 to earn the right to play their compatriots.
The matchup will pit former partners Hyden and Lucena against each other in an attempt to advance to Sunday’s semi-finals.
Hyden and Bourne, who have been hot at this tournament, are 3-1 against Lucena and Dalhausser in 2016. That includes a crushing (21-13, 21-7) defeat in Chicago two weeks ago.
Schalk/Saxton (Canada) def. Brouwer/Meeuwsen (Netherlands) 2-0
- 21-19, 21-19
- Schalk and Saxton advance to play the Polish team of Losiak/Kantor at 4:45 Toronto time on Center Court.
Bower and Meeuwson took the bronze medal in August a month ago, but like many teams with a post-Olympic hangover have been out-of-rhythm this week.
They wound up falling in straight sets 21-19, 21-19 to the Canadians who have played well in front of a home crowd.

- Pedro Solberg/Evandro advance to play the Latvians Samoilovs/Smedins at 4:45PM Toronto time
Like the Americans and the Poles, both Brazilian teams advanced to the quarterfinals when Pedro Solber and Evandro defeated the team from Italy in 3 sets.
Every set in this match was hard-fought, with two requiring extra points to be decided – including a 16-14 victory in the final set.
