Poland’s Paradox: Easier To Sell Expensive Tickets Than Cheap Ones

We have reported recently that Krakow will host the Hubert Jerzy Wagner Memorial tournament, men’s volleyball’s most prestigious friendly competition, for the fourth time in a row. This time around, though, Polish volleyball authorities have stated that it has set out to promote full attendance at Tauron Arena, as sometimes was not the case in previous years, something very akin to Polish fans, who always crowd volleyball arenas. Remember, this is a country who once put 60k people in a soccer stadium to watch a volleyball match.

Jacek Kasprzyk, president of the Polish Volleyball Federation, commented on what he considered to be a strange paradox when it comes to volleyball attendance:

“We are aware of these facts. Ticket prices start from PLN 30 (about 9 dollars), but a paradox is that all the most expensive ones are already sold, and the cheapest are left. We are trying to do everything in our power to remedy this, we promote all events in social media and we also are signing contracts with cities much earlier, so that we can start promoting events as soon as possible.”

This is surely an unusual dynamic, and we must ask ourselves just what is going on in  the mind of Polish volleyball fans?
