19-year old Polish prospect Jakub Rybicki has signed a three-year contract with Cerrad Czarnych Radom to continue his career after training at the Polish School of Sports in Spala since 2014.
Rybicki stands 195cm tall (6’4″), and has listed spike and block heights of 340cm and 310cm, respectively.
He was named the MVP of Poland’s 2014 Junior National Olympics and is a member of Poland’s Junior National Team as a receiver – his height (which is on the diminutive end for an elite outside hitter) will begin to hamper him unless he can continue to increase his vertical leap north of 350cm.
He’s one of two members of the European Junior Championship side that the team has added this off-season. In April, they announced a 3-year contract with Norbert Huber, who 12 points in the block and 8 points in service at last year’s European Junior Championships.
Cerrad Czarni Radom finished 7th in Poland’s top PlusLiga last season with 15 wins in 32 games.
This is part of a big roster overhaul in the offseason that includes the addition of Dejan Vincic, Michal Filip and Kamil Kwasowski. The moves, in combination, should serve to vastly improve the team defensively.
Filip, a 6’6″ opposite from AZS Politechnika Warszaw, is the biggest offensive addition after his former club did not renew his contract. The 22-year old, who hits at 360cm (11’8″), has made an appearance on Poland’s B-Team, where he won a bronze medal in the 2015 European League.
