Top-Seed Day/Hochevar Win Huntington Open Women’s Crown

2017 AVP TOUR – HUNTINGTON BEACH OPEN

Top seeded Emily Day and Brittany Hochevar cruised to the AVP Huntington Beach Open title with a 21-13, 21-19 win over No. 6 seed Betsi Flint and Kelley Larsen Sunday afternoon. Day/Hochevar lost just one set in the tournament, set two of the team’s quarterfinal match with fourth-seeded Lane Carico and Lauren Fendrick.

Day and Hochevar swept No. 2 seed Whitney Pavlik and April Ross 23-21, 21-14 in the semifinals Sunday morning. The Huntington Beach title is the first for the pair since the AVP Manhattan Beach Open last year.

Flint and Larsen, who were runner-up at the 2016 AVP Championships, downed No. 3 seed Angela Bensend and Geena Urango (21-15, 21-14) and Pavlik/Ross (21-7, 21-19) to make the semifinals. The pair then defeated Carico/Fendrick (21-17, 21-13) to earn the finals berth.

The next stop on the AVP Tour is the Austin Open, May 18-21.
