The 6’4” outside/middle hitter, Reece Carmen, has decided to leave Boise State after one year and joins the Idaho Vandals for the 2017 season under head coach, Debbie Buchanan.
During her freshman season, Carmen totaled 38 kills and 11 blocks in 35 sets as Bronco and recorded a single-game season high of 11 kills. Carmen transferred to the Vandals in October and had to redshirt this past 2015 season due to the NCAA transfer rules.
Idaho and Boise State are geographically not to far away from each other but the two schools haven’t competed against each other since 2014, where the Vandals won 3-1.
As a three-year varsity player at Walla Walla High School in Washington, Carmen earned Second Team All-District honors as a senior caption in 2014 and was honorable mention in 2013. Carmen was selected to play for USA Continental Team in Florida during the summer of 2013 and competed against teams from all over the world
The Vandals will also add two incoming freshman, Rachel Mills and Nicole Ball. Mills, is 6’1 outside/opposite hitter from Carlsbad California, was a First Team All-Avocado West League selection in 2015 and played for nationally ranked Coast volleyball club. Ball, is a 6’3 middle blocker from Folsom, California, led the Capital Athletic League in hitting, blocks, and kills percentage in 2016 and earned All-Capital League honors.
Buchanan says that the three additions to her team are all competitive and academically strong and she is ready to watch them play for her program. Buchanan is the longest-tenured coach in Idaho history as she prepares for her 17th season as a Vandal.
