2017 FIVB BEACH VOLLEYBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – VIENNA

The reigning Olympic champions, Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst defeated fellow countrywomen, Karla Borger and Margareta Kozuch in a tough two-set battle. Kozuch just began as a beach player this season after a dominant indoor career. Her inexperience on the sand hasn’t stopped her and partner Borger from coming in second in their pool at the Vienna Beach World Championships.

Ludwig/Walkenhorst took down the new German squad 2-0, (21-19, 21-18) with all the stats being fairly even across both teams.

Ludwig and Walkenhorst both picked out Kozuch on the serve, serving nearly all balls to her, forcing Borger to block. On the attack, both Ludwig/Walkenhorst were fairly even in their attacks with both mixing up their shots. Ludwig was most successful hitting the ball cross court and around the block while Walkenhorst found more accuracy by going line and deep cross.

Kozuch/Korger sent over the majority of their serves to Ludwig in the match which allowed for Walkenhorst to be set up to block three balls. Kozuch four hard angle shots to be her success in the match while Borger hit a number of different shots to throw off the Olympic champions.

Both teams will advance to the Round of 32 which will begin on August 2.
