2017 FIVB BEACH VOLLEYBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – VIENNA

April Ross and Lauren Fendrick defeated Canada’s Heather Bansley and Brandie Wilkerson to secure their spot in the semifinals. After a difficult 3 set match to get into the quarterfinals, the American team easily handled the Canadians taking the first set with a score of 21-16. They were able to pick up their play even more in the second set, closing it out at 21-10.

The USA pressed Bansley to take the lion’s share of the passing and attacking duties. Ross/Fendrick targeted Bansley with almost double the amount of serves to her partner, Wilkerson, with a total of 26. Despite Bansley/Wilkerson sending the majority of their serves to Lauren Fendrick, the Americans had almost the same number of attacks with 23 for Fendrick and 22 for Ross.

Both teams were very efficient with their offense, but the USA was able to outpace the Canadians earning 29 points on their 45 total attacks. Lauren Fendrick continued her streak of good blocking for the USA, tallying the only two blocks for the entire match.

Ross/Fendrick will face off against another Canadian duo of Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes in the semifinals.
