Poland def. Brazil 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-23)
Russia edged Turkey in four sets in a fairly even match, while Poland blew out Brazil with help from offensive and blocking prowess.
Russia 3, Turkey 1
Four Turkish players scored in double digits, but it was not enough to lift the team past Russia in a hard-fought four-set match. The Turkish side won Set 3 25-13 to make up the point differential, as each scored 88 points in the match.
Each team managed 42 kills and five aces. The Turkish side put up 20 blocks to Russia’s 13, but gave up seven more points on errors (28-21).
Angelina Lazarenko led the way for Russia with 13 points, including a team-best five blocks and two aces. Anna Kotikova added 12 points, while Maria Vorobyeva chipped in 10 points. Both Kotikova and Vorobyeva put down a team-leading nine kills.
Senoglu Tugba led the Turks with 16 points, including 10 kills, four blocks and two aces. Saliha Sahin, Zehra Gunes and Derya Cebecioglu turned in 12 points apiece. Sahin paced the team with 11 kills, while Gunes racked up a team-best eight blocks. Yasemin Guveli chipped in nine points, including four blocks.
Poland 3, Brazil 0
Forty kills and 14 blocks lifted Poland to its third straight victory, this one over Brazil in the Top Eight on Tuesday.
The Polish side outdid the Brazilians 40-25 in kills and 14-9 in blocks and had one less error (17-16). Brazil served up five aces, while allowing four.
Zuzanna Gorecka and Martyna Lukasik scored 15 points apiece to pace Poland, while Martyna Swirad added12. Gorecka and Lukasik downed 12 kills apiece. Swirad put up nine blocks, while Lukasik added three. Gorecka served up a team-best two aces.
Tainara Lemes Santos led Brazil with 12 points, including nine kills and three blocks. Glayce Kelly Tobias Vasconcelos added seven points, with three aces, three kills and a block.
