On the opening night of the Confederaction Sudamericana de Voleibol (CSV) Women’s Championship in Cali, Colombia, all three matches were sweeps. Only the Columbia-Peru match was an upset after the release of the FIVB Rankings today. Columbia, ranked 28 upset Peru, ranked 26.
Venezuela easily handled Chile in the first match of the day. Medina Winderlys of Venezuela led all scorers with 14 points and Chile’s Catalina Reyes was their best scorer with 5 points. The Chilean team has some players who are aged 15-17 years old.
Brazil started Roberta, Tandara, Natalia, Adenizia, Bia, Rosamaria and Gabi as the libero in their match against Argentina. The first set was a little closer than expected at 25-21. However, Brazil did not let their foot off the peddle to win the final two sets to sweep the match. Tandara led all scorers with 16 points (10 kills and 6 blocks). Natalia and Adenizia both hit double figures for Brazil. Julieta Lazcano led the Argentines with 11 points.
In the final match of the day, Colombia had to hold off Peru in all three sets to take the match. Colombia made up their loss from the World Grand Prix Group 2 match versus Peru in July.
