After two seasons with Eczacibasi Vitra Istanbul, Serbian setter Maja Ognjenović has left the Turkish league side for Dynamo Moscow, Last season, Eczacibasi finished runner-up to Vakifbank Istanbul for the league title. This had been the 34-year-old Serb’s second stint with Eczasibasi, having previously played for that side eight years ago during the 2009-2010 season.
The 6-0 (183 cm) Ognjenović regularly serves as captain of the Serbian women’s national volleyball team. With her dishing out assists for her home country, Serbia claimed a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, losing in four sets to the Chinese side in the gold medal match. To reach the finals, Serbia defeated the United States in a five-set thriller.
In other national team competitions, Maya Ognjenović won gold at the 2011 European Championships, as well as a silver medal at the 2007 European Championships. She was named best setter at that competition on three separate occasions, in 2009, 2011, 2015.
