23-year old Italian setter Giulia Carraro will return to Italy’s Serie A1 with Volley Pesaro next season after spending last year in A2 with Entu Olbia. The last time she was in Pesaro, in the 2013-2014 season, they were in Serie B1 after the 2013 combination of two teams, and by winning promotion playoffs both that year and last year, have quickly promoted to the top level of Italian volleyball.
She’s the 2nd setter that Pesaro has added this off-season, and is expected to serve as the backup to Carlotta Cambi, who also joined the team this off-season.
The pairing will replace the outgoing setters Isabella Di Iulio and Rebecca Rimoldi, who both left after the team’s 2nd-place finish in Serie A2 last season and subsequent playoff victory. Di Iulio was the starter last season, and the team ranked 2nd with a 38.2% hitting percentage
Carraro was a member of the Italian U-18, U-19, and U-20 teams, but hasn’t yet cracked the senior squad. In Pesaro, she’ll be playing alongside another young setter, the 21-year old Cambi, who climbed a similar ladder in Italian volleyball, but has found herself among senior National Team members, including on each of the last two World Grand Prix available rosters – though she wasn’t on the bench for this year’s gold medal match, which Italy lost to Brazil.
