A Super-Team Brewing In Paris?

The French Men’s Domestic League has grown a lot in the last couple of years, perhaps as a testament to the recent success the French Men’s national team has experienced in the international scene. This, together with the fact that Paris will host the 2024 Olympic Games, has motivated French clubs to cause an upheaval in the league, renewing their arenas, and lobbying for the adoption of standards similar to those found in the best leagues in the world, such as Italy’s Liga A1 and Poland’s PlusLiga.

But the wildest rumor to come out of France in the last few weeks is that there is a super-team brewing in Paris, of the likes never seen before in international volleyball, according to Gian Pasini of Gazzetta.it (Source 1, Source 2). Details are not yet known, but reports have it that the new club would be looking to sign the sport’s biggest stars, such as Earvin Ngapeth, Jenia Grebennikov, Bruninho (Bruno Rezende), and Lucas Saatkamp (Lucão).

When rumors like this appear, a lot of questions arise as well. Will this new club be in any way involved with the already existing Paris Volley? Will it be connected with the billionaires that own the soccer club Paris St. Germain? Will it massively shift the balance of power in the French League, causing the new club to play without any kind of competition much like Volero Zurich did in Switzerland during years, later causing it to wanting to relocate to a stronger league? We should be able to answer these questions in the next few weeks.
