Saturday featured 12 matches with the winners earning a ticket to the Sweet 16 next weekend. Eight of the matches ended in sweeps, although two of those provided upsets as No. 9 Creighton and No. 11 USC fell to Washington and San Diego respectively.

It was a history making night for the No. 14 seed Marquette University volleyball team as the Golden Eagles swept Cincinnati (25-19, 25-21, 25-16) to reach the round of 16 in the 2018 NCAA Championship for the first time in program history.
Winters, Sanabia, Alexakou Named Big East Player, Libero & Freshman of the Year
Creighton senior Jaali Winters was named BIG EAST Player of the Year for the second major award of her career. St. John’s junior Amanda Sanabia was named Libero of the Year, while teammate Efrosini Alexakou received the Freshman of the Year award.
Kloth, Higareda, Barnes Garner Big East Week 13 Accolades
The final BIG EAST Volleyball weekly awards of 2018 have been given to Creighton’s Taryn Kloth who receives the Offensive Player of the Week, while Georgetown’s Kenzie Higareda collects the Defensive Player of the Week honor. Sanaä Barnes of Villanova picks up the Freshman of the Week accolade.

St. John’s rallied from down two sets to defeat Xavier at home. Meanwhile Butler overcame a first-set loss to top Seton Hall. Creighton and Marquette kept their spots as the top two in the league standings with sweeps.

10 Players Reach 1000 Kills, 3 Notch 1000th Dig on Week 8
Week 8 brought 10 players into the 1,000 kill club, bumping the total of active members to 99 players. Three others reached the 1,000 dig milestone, pushing the number of players in that group to 149 members.
