The No. 9 Lewis Flyers took out No. 4 Ohio State with help from a 21 kill night by outside hitter Ryan Coenen and an all-around statistical win, while No. 19 Concordia downed No. 13 Grand Canyon with a balanced offensive attack, including three double-digit kill efforts, to highlight Thursday play.
No. 15 Fort Wayne continued to gain respect in the national spotlight as the newly ranked squad posted a four-set road win over No. 12 Saint Francis on Friday. Also coming out with wins were No. 7 Ohio State, No. 8 Lewis, No. 9 Grand Canyon and No. 10 Penn State.
Home court advantage and high powered offenses ruled the day on Saturday afternoon as No. 6 Loyola, No. 10 Lewis, Barton and Mount Olive all notched victories hitting .283 or better as a team.
It was a mixed bag of results Friday evening as No. 15 Pepperdine and vote-getter Lindenwood picked up road victories, while homestanding Mount Olive and Barton came out on top in Conference Carolinas action.
No. 4 UC Irvine and No. 18 Fort Wayne notched their seventh victories of the season, topping Concordia-Irvine and Lourdes respectively, while North Greenville and King opened Conference Carolinas action with wins on Wednesday night.
