The Pan American Cup will have a new champion in 2017 after Puerto Rico upset defending champs Cuba in four sets on Saturday. Meanwhile, Argentina continued to roll with a sweep of Canada, having not dropped a single set in the tournament en route to a 4-0 mark.
Canada earned its spot in the Pan Am Cup semifinals with a four-set win over the Dominican Republic, while Puerto Rico grabbed the last spot in the final four.
Emerson Rodriguez scored 31 points, but it was not enough to complete Venezuela’s comeback effort in a five-set loss to Puerto Rico. Meanwhile, Argentina continued on to a 3-0 Pan Am Cup start and semifinal berth with a 3-0 win over Canada.
Argentina remained undefeated in Pool B play with a sweep of Venezuela, while Puerto Rico earned its first win of the tournament with a 3-0 victory over the host Canadians on Wednesday.
After back to back silver medals at the Pan Am Cup, Argentina began its push for more with an easy sweep of Puerto Rico. Meanwhile, home-standing Canada bested Venezuela in four sets to wrap up Day 1 action in Pool B.
