Following Eczacibasi’s finals loss to VakifBank, Team USA’s Rachael Adams published a note in her personal social media pages interpreted by the Turkish volleyball media as a goodbye from the team:
“Last night it didn’t end like we wanted it to but I will carry all the beautiful hearts I met along the way and the many memories I made with me forever. Thank you for the 2 years @EczacibasivitrA family ♥?”
A 2014 World Championship gold medalist and 2016 Olympic Games bronze medalist with Team USA, Adams has enjoyed similar success with Eczacibasi, winning the 2016 FIVB Club World Championship with the team. Such performances have called the attention of Italy’s Monza, which is rumored to have already met with the former University of Texas standout. If the reports are indeed true, it would mean a return to Italy for Adams, as she has already enjoyed 2 successful years with Imoco Conegliano, netting a scudetto in 2015-2016.
Monza finished the current season 13-9 record, good enough for a 5th seed in the playoffs. It then went on to lose its Round of 8 match up against Busto Arsizio. A partnering up of Adams with also stand out middle blocker Francesa Devetag would make for a stingy defense in Monza, hopefully allowing it to advance deeper into the playoffs next season.
