After suffering a fall Saturday (11/18), Club Italia’s Terry Enweonwu was diagnosed with injuries to both cruciate ligaments as well as peripheral ligaments of her left knee. According to the Italian Volleyball Federation, she was subjected to surgery yesterday in Rome. A statement by the Italian Volleyball Federation stated that surgery went perfectly, with the athlete returning to Milan in the next couple of days. It stated that rehabilitation path and recovery times will be defined on on the basis of clinical outcomes.

The 17-year-old Enweonwu is one of Italy’s most promising young stars. She shone this year for Italy in its title run at the FIVB Girls’ U18 World Championships, taking home the best outside hitter award. As is common in Italy with young stars, and as a testament to the country’s deep talent field, Enweonwu is currently playing in the country’s second division league for Club Italia. The team is currently in 10th place, with a 4-5 record. Up until her injury, Enweonwu had scored 145 points in 9 games, for a very good 4.4 points per set average.
