USA Volleyball has officially entered their complete roster for the Women’s Youth Sitting Volleyball team into the 2017 Youth Parapan American Games that will be played on March 20-25th in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Elliot Blake, the manager of sitting volleyball teams for USA Volleyball, is the head coach of the team in the first ever sitting volleyball matches at the Youth Parapan American Games.
The Youth Parapan American Games is a bit different than the Paralympic games in which the Youth Games will be played on a 3 vs 3 format versus 6 vs 6. The U.S. athletes competing in this year games are Alyssa Cleland, Annie Flood, Autum Reagan, and Nina McVay.
Cleland is the oldest on the team at 19 years-old and has been part of the Sitting Volleyball Resident Athlete Training Program since August 2015. Flood, McVay, and Reagan are new to the training process.
Due to the 3 vs 3 format the court measurements will be 8 meters long and 4 meters wide and the tournament will be played in a double-round robin bracket before the medal round bracket.
With about 1,000 athletes varying from ages 12-21 years-old, this years Youth Parapan American Games is run by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee and the games will be held at the new Paralympic Training Centre in Sao Paulo.
