USC’s Claes/Hughes, Two Other Pool A Teams Earn Bid to Round of 16

USAV Collegiate Beach Championships

Day 2 of the USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships saw pool play wrap up for each of the six women’s pools, A through F. Of the 24 women’s teams, the top two teams in each pool advance as well as the highest four of the third-place pool finishers, based on their point ratios.

USC’s Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes won the group with their third victory of the competition, topping St. Mary’s Lindsey Knudsen and Payton Rund, 21-16, 21-18 in just 39 minutes. UCLA’s Kamila Tan and Jordan Anderson topped Cal Poly’s Hannah Hubbard and Emily Sonny in a close three-setter (21-18, 21-23, 15-12) to take second in the pool.

Knudsen and Rund earned a spot in the play-in matches with a 1-2 finish in Pool A.

Kamila Tan/Jordan Anderson (UCLA) def. Hannah Hubbard/Emily Sonny (Cal Poly) 21-18, 21-23, 15-12

Kelly Claes/Sara Hughes (USC) def. Lindsey Knudsen/Payton Rund  (Saint Mary’s) 21-16, 21-18

 

Final Pool A Standings

Claes/Hughes 3-0 (6-0 in sets)

Tan/Anderson 2-1 (4-4 in sets)

Knudsen/Rund 1-2 (3-4 in sets)

Hubband/Sonny 0-3 (1-6 in sets)
