Watch Live: Japan Out To Extend Winning Streak At Grand Champions Cup

2017 WORLD GRAND CHAMPIONS CUP

Japan will wrap up day two of play at the 2017 FIVB World Grand Champions Cup with Russia, in the fifth time the two teams will have faced each other at the event. Russia won the first three meetings up Japan secured the fourth in 2013.

The two teams most recently met at the 2017 World Grand Prix with Japan making a five set comeback to take down the Russians.

Russia began their World Grand Champions Cup play with a four-set loss to Brazil on day one. This is the fourth time the Russians have dropped the opening match of the competition in their five appearances. Dating back to 2013, Russia has now lost four-straight Grand Champions Cup matches. The Russians have never been swept at the tournament.  Russia had three top performers in their loss to Brazil – Nataliya Goncharova with 16 points, Tatiana Kosheleva with 15 and Marlia Frolova with 10.

Japan opened up their tournament play with a win over Korea in straight sets. Recently, Japan finished in seventh place at the FIVB World Grand Prix. The Japanese side was led by Rika Nomoto with 18 points while Mami Uchiseto and Risa Shinnabe each added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
