On day two of the 2017 FIVB Men’s Club World Championships, a resilient Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle squad will take on Cucine Lube Civitanova who took down the reigning champions on day one.
Zaksa made a tremendous comeback against Sarmayeh Bank, falling in the first two sets 25-19 and 25-20. They forged a comeback with a third set score of 25-16 while fighting tooth and nail in the fourth to squeak out a 31-29 win to force a deciding set. The fifth set went into extra points with Zaksa fighting ahead to win 17-15.
Maurice Torres led the way for Zaksa in their comeback win by posting a match-best 26 points while Sam Deroo posted another 21.
Cucine Lube had the toughest first-round matchup as they were paired with reigning champions Sada Cruzeiro on day one, to which they were able to win in a sweep. In the win over the Brazilian squad, Cucine Lube led in all important categories – kills (37-32), blocks (5-3) and aces (11-3).
Tsvetan Sokolov led the way with 20 points in the match while Osmany Juantorena contributed 10 in the win.
