Witt Twins Dominate Pool F at Pairs Championships

USAV Collegiate Beach Championships

Day 2 of the USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships saw pool play wrap up for each of the six women’s pools, A through F. Of the 24 women’s teams, the top two teams in each pool advance as well as the highest four of the third-place pool finishers, based on their point ratios.

Arizona’s top duo Madison and McKenna Witt had to work through their first three-set match of the tournament to claim Pool F’s top position. The twins defeated Florida State’s Victoria Paranagua and Vanessa Freire 21-15, 13-21, 15-13 to move on to the Round of 16 after going 2-0 in two quick sweeps on Thursday.

LSU’s Claire Coppola and Kristen Nuss downed  South Carolina’s Katie Zimmerman and Macie Tendrich. 21-13, 21-18 to land their spot in the Round of 16.

Paranagua/Freire advanced to the Play-In match for a chance to make the Round of 16.

The Witt twins went 21-8 and finished third at the Pac-12 Pairs Championships. Paranagua typically plays No. 3 for the Seminoles alongside Mary Jerger (17-7), while Freire occupies the No. 2 position with Francesa Goncalves (12-3).  Coppola and Nuss went 26-6 for LSU, including 17-5  on the No. 1 line. Zimmerman and Tendrich (13-2) are South Carolina’s No. 3 pair.
