PlusLiga’s Łuczniczka Bydgoszcz has announced in its official website the signing of Yevgenii Gorchaniuk through the end of the season. The 30-year-old 6’6″ Ukrainian spiker has spent most of his career in Greece, but has also had stints in Qatar, Russia, and Turkey. In the current season, he competed for MAS Niki Aiginiou of the Greek League.

Here is what Bydgoszcs’s coach, Jakub Benaruk, had to say about his new player:

Because of Henrique Batagim’s health problems, we had to look for someone who would help us in the offensive end. It is difficult at this time to find an unsigned, good volleyball player, which you do not have to buy from a club. We were looking for a player from any club with financial problems. Gorchaniuk seemed the best choice from the offers. This is a very offensive player, especially on the left side, exactly where we are having problems this season. I hope that he will strengthen the offensive end of our game and also add character to the whole team with his aggressiveness on the court.

Łuczniczka Bydgoszcz sits in 14th place in Plusligas’ standings, just out of the relegation zone, with a 3-12 record.
