Zhu Ting Tabbed MVP At World Grand Champions Cup

China’s Zhu Ting earned the MVP title at the 2017 FIVB World Grand Champions Cup, following China winning the competition for the first time in four cycles of the event. The Chinese squad now joins Brazil as the only reigning Olympic champions to win the World Grand Champions Cup. In addition, China holds three global volleyball titles at the same time – 2017 World Grand Champions Cup, 2016 Olympic Games and 2015 World Cup.

Ting finished the competition as both the MVP and tabbed as one of the Best Outside Hitters in the competition. Overall, Ting ended the tournament with 100 points scored on 88 kills, seven blocks and five aces. In two separate matches, Ting posted the highest points amount scored with 33 points scored against Brazil and 26 points scored against Japan. Her performance against Brazil was the highest output by any player in one day at the competition.

Also being named as one of the Best Outside Hitters was Jordan Larson of the United States with 70 points scored at the tournament, leading the Americans balanced offense.

In the middle, Brazil’s Ana Carolina Da Silva and China’s Yuan Xinyue were named the Best Middle Blockers at the World Grand Champions Cup. Da Silva topped the blocking chart at the competition with 19, while Xinyue added 14 to earn the title.

At the setting position, Japan’s Koyomi Tominaga earned the Best Setter honor, dishing out 7.57 assists per set. Japan also tabbed the Best Libero in the competition in Kotoe Inoue as she picked up 72 digs for an average of 3.43 digs per set.

Finally, Brazil’s Tandara Caixeta earned the Best Opposite at the competition after her 97 point output. Tandara put down 77 kills, 11 blocks and nine aces to lead Brazil to the #2 position.
