#1 Seeded Davis/Scarbrough & Brunsting/Frishman Move On In Seattle

AVP SEATTLE OPEN

The qualification round of the AVP Tour stop in Seattle has concluded, with four teams from each gender moving on to the main draw of the tournament.

The stop in Seattle will feature a $150,000 purse prize, with the potential to earn up to 750 points as the first place finisher. This is the second year the event will take place in Seattle, with the competition featuring three different players earning their first-ever AVP victories.

Women

There are four women’s pairs that will move on to the main draw of the event:

  • Aurora Davis/Bree Scarbrough
  • Skylar Caputo/Sarah Pavan
  • Mackenzie Phelps-Ponnet/Molly Turner
  • Camie Manwill/Maria Clara Salgado

Davis/Scarbrough flew through their opponents in two sets, starting with Becky Bean/Mary Boles 2-0, (21-8, 21-17) followed by a win over Josephine Kremer/Jessica Sykora 2-0, (21-15, 22-20). The pairs final match of the day came to Terese Cannon/Nicolette Martin, where they were challenged to a three-set match 2-1, (22-20, 15-21, 15-13) that took up until the last points to win.

Pepperdine beach player, Caputo and new partner Pavan took down their first opponent, Jennifer Albrecht/Janis Dixon 2-0, (21-12, 21-19). Their second match to Bre Moreland and Jacqui Wood was a tougher task, needing three sets to take the win and move onward 2-1, (21-17, 19-21, 15-13). The duo’s third match came against Mariko Coverdale/Chelsea Hayes which they handled easily 2-0, (21-14, 21-12).

Phelps-Ponnet/Turner move on to the next round after a trio of sweeps, first over Francesca Goncalves/Gigi Hernandez 2-0, (21-14, 23-21) than Christina Alessi/Kristine Monforte 2-0, (21-17, 21-11). The pairs final match came to Delaney Knudsen/Deahna Kraft, taking them down 2-0, (21-17, 21-19).

Lastly, Manwill/Salgado flew through  Kristen Petrasic/Hayley Spelman 2-0, (21-14, 21-9). The pair fought through a tough three setter against Agnieszka Pregowska/Aleksandra Wachowicz 2-1, (20-22, 21-16, 15-11). To move on, the duo defeated Branagan Fuller/Alix Klineman 2-1, (21-16, 17-21, 17-15).

Men

The four men’s duos that will move onward to the main draw are:

  • Michael Brunsting/Chase Frishman
  • Ricardo Santos/Chaim Schalk
  • Piotr Marciniak/Roberto Rodriguez-Bertran
  • Derek Olson/Jeff Samuels

Brunsting/Frishman had the advantage in the qualification round, passing the first match with a bye. In their first match of the day, the pair took down Kevin Lynch/Jason Raney 2-0, (21-9, 21-14) then Tim May/Travis Woloson in three 2-1, (17-21, 21-19, 15-6).

Santos/Schalk advance on to another main draw in the AVP Tour with a first match win over Brendan McCay/Alessio/Signorini 2-0, (21-14, 21-9). Their second match was another sweep over Kyle Friend/Myles Muagututita 2-0, (21-19, 21-15), then to pass them on to the main draw was another sweep this time against Branden Clemens/Ben Vaught 2-0, (21-14, 21-11).

Marciniak/Rodriguez-Bertran began their day with an easy 2-0, (21-5, 21-7) win over Jason Harris/Jarmo Monttinen. The pairs second match to Zoran Grabovac/Benjamin Shamrokh was another 2-0, (21-9, 21-19) sweep, followed by a three-setter to Paul Araiza/Ian Satterfield 2-1, (19-21, 21-16, 16-14) to move on.

Olson/Samuels started off the qualification round with a 2-0, (21-12, 21-6) victory over Gage Hausheer/Kyle Hausheer. The pair then took on Dylan Holland/Tristan Patterson, taking them down 2-0, (21-14, 21-14). The pairs final match of the day featured, yet another sweep over Evan Cory/John Hamilton 2-0, (21-15, 21-10).
