Penn State Remains No. 1, 20 Spots Shift in AVCA Top 25

Only five teams held their positions in this week’s AVCA Coaches’ Poll, starting at the top with No. 1 Penn State, which remained in the top spot for the fifth straight week.

Also staying pat were No. 8 Michigan State, No. 9 BYU, No. 18 UCLA and No. 22 Cal Poly.

Rounding out the top five were Texas, Florida, Stanford and Nebraska. Stanford fell from two to four after a loss to then No. 13 Washington, while No. 5 Minnesota dropped from five to seven. Nebraska moved into the top five after looming at No. 6 last week.

The biggest move came from No. 15 Purdue, which climbed six spots from No. 21 after registering upsets over then No. 5 Minnesota and No. 10 Wisconsin.

Baylor jumped four spots from 23 to 19 with an upset win over then No. 11 Kansas. The Jayhawks suffered the biggest fall of the week, dropping five spots to No. 16, while Colorado State also plummeted five spots with a loss to unranked San Jose State.

Washington moved up three spots to No. 10 with its upset of Stanford, while USC rose three spots from 17 to 14 with wins over then No. 15 Utah and No. 25 Colorado.

New to the poll at No. 25 is Missouri State, which clinched the Missouri Valley title on Sunday.
