In lieu of our weekly Player of the Week award, throughout the NCAA Tournament, VolleyMob will choose a dream team of three hitters, two middle blockers, a setter and a libero.
For the NCAA first and second rounds, there were several outstanding performances, making our jobs especially difficult, but without further ado, we present VolleyMob’s Subregional Dream Team.
HITTERS
Adora Anae, Utah – Sr., OH
Averaged 5.43 kills and 3.57 digs per set, hitting at a .361 clip, while leading Utes to a pair of wins at the SLC sub-regional and the program’s first Sweet 16 appearance since 2008; tallied a new NCAA Tournament single-match school record with 27 kills over Purdue in the sub-regional championship match; collected double-doubles in both matches with 11 kills/13 digs against Cleveland State and 27 kills/12 digs against Purdue
Reily Buechler, UCLA – Sr., OH
Averaged 5.57 kills, while hitting .422 and adding 3.00 digs and 1.14 aces per set in two wins over Austin Peay and Cal Poly; posted just four hitting errors in 83 attempts, .215 points higher than her season percentage; notched 13 kills, a .393 percentage, a career-high seven aces and 10 digs versus Austin Peay; six of her seven aces came in the third set, including five in a row; added another double-double with 26 kills (tied career high) and 11 digs versus Cal Poly
Veronica Jones-Perry, BYU – Jr., OH
Averaged 6.67 kills per set, while hitting .375 vs. American and Oregon; notched 13 kills, while hitting .189 with three digs, two aces and a block vs. American; tallied 27 kills, hitting .535 (27-4-43) and adding five digs and two aces vs. Oregon.
MIDDLE BLOCKERS
Audriana Fitzmorris, Stanford – So., MB
Averaged 2.50 blocks and 3.00 kills per set, while helping hold CSU Bakersfield and Colorado State to a combined .045 hitting efficiency; downed 10 kills on a .833 (10-0-12) hitting effort with eight blocks against CSUB; tallied eight kills while hitting .500 and adding seven blocks and two aces vs. CSU
Alyssa Garvelink, Michigan State – Sr., MB
Averaged 1.57 blocks and 3.57 kills, hit .488 (25-5-41); hit .526 with 12 kills and added seven blocks in MSU’s first-round NCAA win over No. 25 Missouri State on Friday; recorded 13 kills, hit .455, and added four blocks (one solo) in win over No. 15 Creighton on Saturday
SETTER
Sarah Sponcil, UCLA – Sr., S
Averaged 11.00 assists and 6.00 digs per set, setting the Bruins to a .297 hitting percentage; posted double-doubles in both matches with 28 assists and 18 digs against Austin Peay and 49 assists and 24 digs versus Cal Poly; had at least five digs in all seven sets
LIBERO
Dalianliz Rosado, Minnesota – Sr., L
Averaged 5.86 digs and 2.00 assists per set; managed 15 digs and 11 assists vs. North Dakota; added 26 digs and 3 assists vs. Northern Iowa
