After 10 months away from the court due to a gruesome injury, which included an arduous recovery period, Brazil’s superstar middle-blocker Thaisa Daher was finally able to return to the courts 2 months ago. Her hard work paid off, as she was recently called up for José Roberto Guimarães‘ Brazilian national team squad. Although she has been a constant fixture on the team for the last 12 years, she has recently stated in an interview published on Melhordovolei.com.br that this time around, after all she went through, it feels even more special:
“After such a troubled year, I believe that the most difficult of my life, to be part of the national squad list, which is the greatest goal of an athlete, makes me very happy. And it is not because I am two-time Olympic champion and I have won several titles defending Brazil that this would change the value of being called up for the team. Perhaps, today, it’s worth even more, because I have turned my life around after months in pain and hearing that I would never play volleyball again. Being back to the team is an indescribable feeling.”
When healthy, Thaisa is arguably the best middle blocker in the world. Brazil’s hopes for a successful Nations League and World Championship run rests, among other things, in her full recovery.
