After ten years abroad, Lukasz Zygadlo is finally making his return to Poland as he was announced by Stocznia Szczecin in its official website as one of the club’s new signings. Zygadlo is one of the most successful Polish setters of all time. In his career, the 38-year-old play-maker has won 3 CEV Champions League and FIVB Club WCH titles (2008-2011, all with Trentino), 1 PlusLiga title (1999-00), 2 Italian A1 titles (2009-10 and 2011-12), and most recently 3 straight Iranian Championships with Sarmayeh Bank Tehran. He has also played in Russia with Zenit Kakan.
The 6’7″ Zygadlo debuted with Poland’s national team over 20 years ago and has 247 caps with it. Among other titles with the team he won a world vice-championship (2006), European championships bronze (2011), World Cup silver (2011), and World League gold (2012).
Here is how his new coach reacted to the news:
“Polish clubs for many years tried to persuade Łukasz to return and play in PlusLiga, but nothing came out of this effort. We enjoy the fact that we managed to convince him to such a move. The league in the upcoming season promises to be very interesting, but also demanding. Szczecin had a 10-20 record last season, which almost saw it get relegated. However, the team is gearing up for a better run this time around, and is ready to invest heavily in its roster.
