The ink has barely dried on the checks for the FIVB World Tour Finals and the 2018-19 season is to begin at the Siofok One Star.

The double-gender event in Siofok, Hungary, kicks off the year, just four days after the end of the 2017-18 slate. Thirty women’s teams representing 14 countries and 34 men’s teams from 18 countries are set to compete. France’s Ukraine’s Iryna Makhno/Inna Makhno and Romain DiGiantommaso/Jeremy Silvstre are the top seeds in the event.

A one star event in Montpellier, France, from Aug. 28 to Sept. 1 follows, with the event being the first at which Olympic ranking points for Tokyo 2020 will be awarded.

Twenty-six men’s teams and 25 women’s teams are on the lineup sheet for Montpellier including American women Audrey Nourse/Nicole Nourse and Allison Spurrier/Melissa Fuchs.

Both the Siofok and Montpellier events will be run in conjunction with the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV).

Eyes then turn to Asia for the Qinzhou Three Star from Sept. 30 to Oct. 4 and the Yangzhou Four Star from Oct. 10 to 14.

The FIVB announced last week that Kerri Walsh Jennings’ P1440 event in Las Vegas (Oct. 17-21) will be a four-star level event with Olympic ranking points on the line.

A record number of FIVB events were played in 2017-18: 42 men’s and 43 women’s tournaments beginning last September in Montpellier. The full FIVB 2018-19 slate is expected to be announced after the World Tour Council meeting later this fall.
