It took 3 games and a very fragile opponent, but the volleyball crazy Philippine fans finally celebrated a win at the 2018 Asian Games women’s volleyball competition. After dropping its first two meetings 3-0 to podium favorites Thailand and Japan, Alyssa Valdez scored 14 points to finally get her team started on the win column with a 3-0 win (25/18, 25/21, 25/22 – Stats). Sau Yeung had 15 points in the losing effort. Meanwhile, Thailand and China made strong statements by beating rivals Japan and South Korea, respectively. Here is the day’s recap:
Thailand x Japan
Thailand moves 2-0 to after beating Japan, now 2-1, 3-0 (25/20, 27/25, 25/20). Chatchu Moksri led the way with 16 points while Miyu Nagaoka had 16 points in the losing effort.
Kazakhstan x India
Kazakhtan moves to 2-1 after beating India, now 0-3, 3-0 (25/8, 25/19, 25/23). Sana Anarkulova led the way with 14 points while Minimol Abraham had 11 points in the losing effort.
Taiwan x Vietnam
Taiwan moves to 1-2 after beating Vietnam, now 1-2, 3-2 (25/13, 19/25, 25/19, 16/25, 15/11). Tzuya Chen led the way with 16 points while Thi Bui had 19 points in the losing effort.
China South x Korea
China moves to 3-0 after beating South Korea, now 2-1, 3-0 (25/21, 25/16, 25/16). Ting Zhu led the way with 18 points while Kim Yeon-Koung had 17 points in the losing effort.
