The race for the World University Beach Championships is down to 16 men’s teams as the eight pool winners and eight Round 1 winners remain after a knockout round on Tuesday.

After dropping their first two matches of the tournament, Brett Rosenmeier/Colton Cowell of Hawaii rallied for two victories on Tuesday to earn a spot in the Final 16.
In their final pool E match, the duo topped Simon Mosimann/Raphael Scheidegger of Switzerland in tiebreak (18-21, 21-13, 15-10) to claim a spot in the first knockout round. With new life, Rosenmeier/Cowell downed Singapore’s Fan Yang Mark Shen/Kingsley Tay in straight sets to ensure a Top 16 finish.
Fellow Americans Jon Justice/Adam Wienckowski won their final Pool C match, but will have to settle for a 17-24th place effort after falling to Spain’s Oscar Jimenez/Hugo Rojas in Round 1.
