The 2017 Vienna Beach World Championships are coming up this week and the beach World Rankings have been updated since the World Tour event in Olsztyn.

For the men, Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena top the World Rankings and come into the World Championships with the #3 seed. So far this season, Dalhausser/Lucena have placed in the top-10 of all World Tour events including two first place finishes in Moscow and Gstaad. The pair brings in a strong dynamic and history of success to the championships. In pool play, they will face fellow American’s John Hyden/Ryan Doherty who have been fairly consistent this season. Coming out of Olsztyn, the pair finished in second place, having some momentum heading into the World Championships.

Alison Cerutti/Bruno Schmidt have some tough shoes to fill as they won the last edition in the Netherlands in 2015 as well as the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. They are just one of the five Brazilian teams to place out of six in the last World Championships, as they took down the Dutch pair of Reinder Nummerdor/Christiaan Varenhorst in the title match.

The top-three women’s seed in the World Championships also hold the top-three spots in the World Rankings – Larissa Franca/Talita Antunes (#1), Chantal Laboureur/Julia Sude (#2) and Agatha Bednarczuk/Eduarda ‘Duda’ Santos Lisboa (#3).

Up until recently, the reigning Olympic championships for the women, Kira Walkenhorst/Laura Ludwig, were ranked within the top-10 but after the last World Tour event, they dropped to 21st. Ludwig is working back from shoulder surgery that she had in the off season, proving to be a tough test for the pair in the 2017 season.

The event begins on July 28 and will run through August 6 when the men’s finals take place.

Below you will be the updated World Rankings for the teams in the tournament. (Note, some teams are so new to the rankings or are a new pairing in general that they did not make the list.)
