Saturday belonged to the home teams in the Big 12 as TCU handed Texas Tech its first loss, Kansas upset No. 22 Baylor and No. 6 Texas swept Iowa State to stay atop the conference standings.

Notables

  • Texas Tech put up 10 blocks, but it was not enough to stop the TCU offense which hit at a .295 clip and registered a 62-50 lead in kills.
  • elan McCall turned in 21 kills and 17 digs to lead the way for TCU, while Katie Clark added 20 putaways on a .359 clip. It marked the first time since Oct. 16, 2004, and just the seventh time in program history two players posted 20 kills in a match. Anna Walsh chipped in 11 kills, hit .409 and put up a team-best three blocks.
  • Chandler Atwood downed 17 kills and added four blocks, while hitting at a .429 clip for Texas Tech. Brooke Kanas (11) and Emily Hill (10) were not far behind. Allison White led the way at the net with seven blocks.
  • The Frogs built a 15-9 lead by midway through thanks to five TTU miscues and two kills apiece by McCall and Walsh. The Red Raiders were within two at 19-17 after four TCU errors and two kills and a block by Katy Keenan. TCU closed out the win on a 5-2 run, including three McCall putaways.

Kansas def. #22 Baylor 3-1

Notables

  • Kansas put up 16 blocks and served up seven aces in a four-set win over Baylor to stay perfect in Big 12 play and extend its win streak to seven matches.
  •  Baylor outhit Kansas .282 to .194 in the opening stanza, but fell off from there, hitting under .100 for the next two before bouncing back to hit .237 in the finale. The Jayhawks meanwhile had their best effort in Set 4 at .242.
  • Jada Burse carried most of the offensive load for Kansas with 19 kills on a .390 hitting effort. Zoe Hill added nine kills and six blocks, while Gabby Simpson did a little bit of everything, posting 18 assists, eight kills, eight digs and five blocks.
  • Rachel Langs notched her second double-digit block effort of the year, putting up 10 stuffs (2 solo, 8 assists), following a 14-stuff performance at Oklahoma on Sept. 26.
  • Gia Milana turned in a 17-kill, 12-dig effort and four blocks to pace the Bears. Aniah Philo chipped in 13 kills and 12 digs, while Shelly Fanning added 10 kills and seven blocks.
  • The Jayhawks pulled away with 4-0 run in Set 4 to go up 17-12 on a Camryn Ennis ace. Two Fanning kills had the Bears back within three at 21-18. Later, facing match point at 24-18, Baylor stayed alive with a solo block by Hannah Lockin and kills by Jaelyn Jackson and Philo. Langs and Ennis teamed up for a final block to cap the 25-21 win.

#6 Texas def. Iowa State 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-21)

Notables

  • Iowa State outhit Texas .302 to .286 and outblocked the Longhorns 6-4, but fell in three sets. Texas edged the Cyclones 4-2 in aces.
  • Texas outhit Iowa State .282 to .250 in Set 3 to stay perfect against the Cyclones in Gregory Gym (25-0).
  • Logan Eggleston notched a 12-kill, 10-dig effort, her first career double-double, to pace the Longhorns. Micaya White added nine putaways and 12 digs. Yaazie Bedart-Ghani (8), Morgan Johnson (7) and Brionne Butler (6) rounded out the offense. Butler hit at a team-best .545 clip.
  • Grace Lazard (11), Josie Herbst (10) and Jess Schaben (10) led the Cyclones with double-digit kill efforts. Lazard hit at a .474 clip, while Schaben rounded out a double-double with 11 digs.
  • The teams tied nine times in Set 3, last at 13, before Texas pulled away with a 7-3 run including two kills apiece by Bedart-Ghani and White. The Longhorns scored three in a row, two on ISU errors, to go up 24-19. A block and a kill by Candelaria Herrera kept the match going, before Eggleston put down the final kill at 25-21.
