STOCKTON, Calif. – The #8 Cougars defeated the Tigers Saturday night at the Alex G. Spanos Center. BYU is now 6-0 in West Coast Conference play.
BYU hit .312 on the match, with a .458 clip in the first. They held Pacific to just a .098 hitting percentage. The Cougars also out-blocked the Tigers 10-4.
BYU setter, Lyndie Haddock, totaled 30 assists and 11 digs for a double-double, three kills, and one solo block. On the other side of the net, Hanne De Schrijver and Andie Shelton notched 16 and 12 assists, respectively. Each added four digs.
One BYU player posted double-figure kills with Veronica Jones-Perry totaling 13 kills on a .357 clip, along with 6 digs and one block assist. Taylen Ballard had an impressive night with 9 kills and a .533 hitting percentage with just one error on 15 attempts.
Pacific’s offense was led by Ashlyn Fleming with 7 kills on a .385 clip.
Both teams return to play Thursday as the Cougars will face Portland at home and the Tigers host Loyola Marymount.

STOCKTON, Calif. — Balanced hitting at the pins helped push No. 8 BYU women’s volleyball past Pacific in three sets (25-19, 25-20, 25-16) Saturday afternoon at the Alex G. Spanos Center to remain perfect in league play.
“The team came out focused on what they wanted to do today,” BYU head coach Heather Olmstead said. “Our offense and defense executed at a high level against a good Pacific team.”
Veronica Jones-Perry led the Cougars with 13 kills to go with six digs. Taylen Ballard added nine kills on a .533 clip while McKenna Miller chipped in eight kills in the win. Lyndie Haddock contributed 30 assists and 11 digs for a double-double. Mary Lake and Sydnie Martindale collected 10 and nine digs, respectively, and Kennedy Redding added eight blocks to round out the defensive effort.
Pacific (7-11, 2-5 West Coast Conference) took a 5-2 lead early in the first set against BYU (17-1, 6-0 WCC). Back-to-back kills from Miller then helped the Cougars on a 6-1 run to take an 8-6 advantage. A Cosy Burnett ace pushed BYU ahead by three, 16-13, and a Redding solo block extended the advantage to seven, 22-15. The Cougars won the set 25-19 on a Burnett kill.
Errors from the Tigers kept BYU ahead 8-7 to start the second set. The Cougars then stormed ahead 12-8 after consecutive Redding and Ballard blocks. Three kills from Jones-Perry helped extend the advantage to seven, 21-14, but Pacific scored the next three points to get back within four, trailing 21-17. A Ballard kill then ended the set 25-20.
A pair of kills each from Ballard and Burnett helped BYU take a 6-3 lead to begin the third set. A Jones-Perry kill made it 13-9, and another pair of kills from Jones-Perry pushed the Cougars on a 5-0 run to go up 18-10. Three-straight points from the Tigers ensued to get them back within five, down 18-13, but the rally proved too late as BYU cruised through the rest of the set, winning it 25-16 on a Pacific service error.
The Cougars return home to the Smith Fieldhouse next, facing Portland Thursday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. MDT. The match will be televised live on BYUtv. Links to the video stream and live stats can be found on the BYU women’s volleyball schedule page.

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women’s volleyball team was defeated by No. 8 BYU Saturday afternoon at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
The Tigers fell by set scores of 25-19, 25-20, 25-16. The Tigers have fallen to 2-5 in West Coast Conference play, 7-11 overall. The Cougars are now 17-1 overall, 6-0 against WCC teams.
This weekend’s opponents were among the toughest for any WCC squad to play with both San Diego and BYU among the nations top 25 teams. Despite nearly pulling out a five-set victory against No. 19 San Diego, the Tigers struggled to obtain the same momentum against a tough BYU block, as they were limited to a .098 hitting percentage.
Leading the team’s efforts was Emily Baptista with 9 kills and six digs, as well as Ashlyn Fleming, who hit .385 with seven kills. Andie Shelton registered five kills, 12 assists, and four digs on the day.
Pacific snagged an early lead over BYU, but with a 5-2 advantage, the Cougars tallied six of the next seven points to pull ahead at 8-6. UOP kept within one-point six more times before BYU’s Veronica Jones-Perry and Kennedy Redding came up with a huge block to give the Cougars their largest lead of the game (20-15). With BYU taking the next two points, the Cougar lead became too far out of reach for the Tigers as they fell, 25-19.
In set two the score was tied four times before either team had nine points. After four-straight attack errors by Pacific, the Cougars were able to pull away to a 13-9 lead. A service ace by Andie Shelton put the Tigers within two (13-15), but BYU then answered back with a 6-1 run that led to the set win.
The final set started out much like the two prior, but for nearly every point the Tigers collected BYU answered back with multiple, keeping Pacific at a comfortable distance. The Cougars largest lead of the set came following a kill by Tigers’ Kaitlyn Lines that brought the teams within three points of one another. BYU won the next five points to pull away with an 18-10 lead. Pacific had one last push, with a kill by Skylar Wine and two BYU attack errors, but WCC kill leader Veronica Jones-Perry answered with back-to-back kills to give the Cougars a 22-15 lead that secured the match victory.
The Tigers return to the Alex G. Spanos Center on Thursday, October 26 when they host West Coast Conference-foe Loyola Marymount. At their earlier meeting in Los Angeles, the Lions took the match, 3-0. First serve for the Oct. 26 match will be at 7:00 pm.
