It has been an adventurous couple of years for Canadian outside hitter Chris Voth. After coming out as gay and being denied a contract from an unnamed professional club, he played the 2016/2017 season in Finland for Team Lakkapaa in the their country’s highest league. Voth helped lead the team to a fifth place regular season finish in his lone season in Finland. With the new club season quickly approaching, Voth took to social media to announce his plans for the 2017/2018 season.

Voth joins an SK Volejbal team that finished last season winning a series against Turnov to avoid relegation in the Czech Extraliga. Winning the series saved the team from a poor showing where they won only one match during the regular season. The will continue to compete in the Extraliga for the 2017/2018 season.

Voth, the 6’6” (197 cm) outside hitter has spent time with the Canadian national team on and off since 2012 but was left off the 2016 Rio Olympics roster for a team that finished in 5th place. Although Voth has not contributed in a regular capacity recently, the Canadian team has had a successful year with their 5th place finish at the Olympics and a bronze medal finish at the 2017 FIVB World League.
