In an effort to encourage more countries and sponsors to organize an FIVB Beach World Tour event, the FIVB has launched an Events Business department within its ranks to market the “great business opportunity” to all stakeholders.

With its newly introduced five-star system, the FIVB hopes to gain more involvement from potential partners. The new system allows for varying levels of investment, which will offer several new locales, businesses and others investors to bring beach volleyball closer to home.

The 5-star structure is “based on innovative and specialized criteria” which ranks events from one to five stars, allowing for simpler organizational standards and greater fan engagement.

The open bidding process is open through June 30, for hopes of inclusion in the 2017-2018 season.  The FIVB points out that all FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event will benefit from its exclusive endorsement as well as inclusion in the “road to Tokyo 2020” qualification period.

The new FIVB Events Business department will look into new disciplines such as Snow Volley and Street Volley. The first ever FIVB snow volley event took place in Moscow in May.  Already the group has travelled to several locales worldwide to offer FIVB Beach volleyball opportunities to interested parties.

I am proud to have been given the responsibility to create a bright future for beach volleyball and its athletes,” department director Angelo Squeo said. “Reformatting the events structure and the calendar will allow for an increased number of events, unique partnerships and hosting opportunities as well as the chance for players and fans across the globe to enjoy an increased number of world class sporting environments. We will do our best to revitalize the calendar with innovative ideas and we will adapt them to the needs of the hosting countries and partners. Our goal is to create a global sport product appealing to sponsors and media.”

Bidding documents and more information on the bidding process is available through the FIVB by email at [email protected].
