Generika-Ayala is continuing to build up their lineup for the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix that is set to begin next month by bringing in Mexico’s Kimberly Gutierrez.
Gutierrez was a former member of Mexico’s U18 squad while also playing for the University of Arizona. With the Wildcats, Gutierrez was a defensive specialist and libero, picking up 253 digs on the year for an average of 2.34 digs per set, while dishing out 63 assists and 20 aces during the 2017 season. Prior to Arizona, Gutierrez played with San Francisco for her first three years of collegiate volleyball. With the Dons, Gutierrez picked up 1,114 digs – therefore ending her career with a total of 1,367 digs.
The addition of Gutierrez comes at a massive overhaul of the Generika-Ayala program that started with the firing of former head coach Francis Vicente. Additionally, the team has brought in five top players to reinforce them for the Grand Prix – Darlene Ramdin, Katarina Pilepic, Ria Meneses, April Ross Hingpit and Bang Pineda.
Also set to join is former Iriga City head coach Parley Tupaz. Iriga City recently disbanded from the Philippine Superliga following a less-than-ideal finish last month. This came following the suspension of Gretchel Soltones from the program from one year following a “One League” policy being broken. Without their star player, Iriga City was unable to justify keeping the program.
