The German women’s volleyball team, after a 1-2 start that left them 11th out of 16 teams in week 1 of the 2018 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League, has made 3 changes for their trip to South Korea for week 2. Playing in Pool 6, they’ll meet Italy, Russia, and South Korea in Suwon, teams ranked 15th, 7th, and 8th, respectively, after 3 games.
Middle blocker Jennifer Pettke, setter Pia Kastner, and outside hitter Hannah Orthmann will all be left home, with middle blocker Barba Wezorke, setter Denise Imodu, and outside hitter Ivana Vanjak joining the team instead.
All 3 players saw match time in week 1 of play (Germany used all 14 players in their 3-0 loss to Serbia). In 3 sets of play, Pettke scored 1 point on a kill in 5 swings. Kastner, who acted mostly as a service specialist, had 2 aces in 13 serves. Orthmann was scoreless on 3 swings and 2 serves in 1 set of play against Serbia.
“The second week will be very difficult again,” said German coach Felix Koslowski. “But we are positive because we need these games. Little things make the difference at this level and we want to improve constantly to make these little things better and better for us.”
