Well, that ended quickly. With the end of the FIVB World Tour, Guto (Gustavo Carvalhães) has announced the end of his partnership with beach legend Ricardo Santos. The duo only played in three WT stops together, winning silver at Espinho, since joining forces just two months ago. Since Ricardo lives in Orlando, there is some speculation that the distance between the players’ hometowns was the deciding factor on the split. Here is what Guto had to say of the break-up (Globo.com):

“I had two months of much learning alongside Ricardo, who for me is the best beach volleyball player of all time. He’s an ace. I learned a lot from him inside the court and I had a good laugh. I am very grateful that he accepted to play the stages of the World Cup at my side and for having won the medal in Espinho. I know how important it was to him, and obviously to me as well. I’m still in Europe. I took 10 days of vacation and I need to develop some ideas and talk to my technical staff. For now I want to rest. 2018 was a very intense year for me. There were many trips, changes of partners, long time away from home. To tell you the truth, I’m crazy about getting home.”

And that’s not all. Alvaro Filho and Saymon Barbosa also decided to call it quits after being together since 2016. The duo, which won the the 2017 Ft. Lauderdale Major, made history this past season when they achieved 11 straight finishes in the Brazilian Circuit, an all time record. It is now expected that Saymon and Guto will form a new partnership
