Texas A&M junior Hollann Hans served up eight aces in the Aggies’ five-set win over Georgia, setting a school match record.

The eight aces were two more than the previous A&M record of six, which had been reached 12 times, last on Aug. 30, 2013 by Allie Sawatzky vs. South Dakota State.

The tally also set a Reed Arena record for aces, besting the previous mark of six. (Texas A&M moved to Reed Arena in 2009.)

  • 6, Kelsey Black vs. Sam Houston State; Sept. 1, 2010
  • 6, Kelsey Black vs. Pacific; Aug. 27, 2010
  • 6, Mikayla Shields (South Carolina); Nov. 19, 2017
  • 6, Taylor Unroe (Florida); Nov. 3, 2013

“I have been working on being more consistent and I think that I still need to work on that,” Hans said of her serving effort. “I just try going in with an aggressive mindset and not being scared even if it is close to the end. Even if it is close to the end, I still try to go out and serve my best. I think everyone did that tonight.”

The school’s highest individual ace tally in an SEC match prior to Sunday was five by Mariah Agre vs. Tennessee on Nov. 15, 2013. (A&M joined the SEC in 2012.)

The eight ace tally doubled Hans’ previous career best of four, which she had achieved three times. The perfect serves nearly earned the junior a triple-double, going along with her match-high 20 kills and 15 digs. The outside hitter also added five assists and four blocks for good measure.

All told, Hans has now served up 85 career aces, including 25 in 2018. She ranks second behind South Carolina’s Aubrey Ezell’s 42 in the 2018 SEC rankings.

Texas A&M served up 14 aces in the 25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 23-25, 15-9 win over Georgia on Sunday, moving to 9-5 on the year and 2-0 in league play.

Next up, the Aggies hit the road for a 2 p.m. ET Sunday match against LSU in Baton Rouge.
