USAV Collegiate Beach Championships

The USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships are underway. The 12 men’s teams have been divided into three pools, A through C. Only American citizens were eligible to play in the tournament. The event is part of the Team USA Summer Champions Series and will serve as a Team USA Trials, garnering a spot to the top men’s pair for a USA Volleyball collegiate beach national team.

The top two teams out of each men’s pool will advance, the highest of the third-place finishers (according to point ratio) will advance. A play-in match between the next two third-place finishers based on point ratio will determine the final single-elimination bracket spot.

Hawaii’s Brett Rosenmeier and Colton Cowell sit atop the pool with a  2-0 record after taking out Nathan Vander Meer and Logan Webber of Davenport and Cincinnati Christian in three sets while also defeating UC Irvine’s Grant Friedman and Scott Stadick in straight sets.

Vander Meer/Webber evened their record at 1-1 with a straight set win over Mount St. Joseph’s Brett Cooper and Alex Vohland. Cooper and Vohland also went 1-1, downing Friedman /Stadick 21-17, 21-17.

Rosenmeier and Cowell played for the Rainbow Warrior indoor team, which advanced to the NCAA semifinals. Cooper and Vohland play for Division III’s Mount St. Joseph, which advanced to the MCVL title match. UC Irvine’s Stadick was an AVCA honorable mention selection.
