Mother nature has pushed back opening day of the 2018 season for Hawaii and Kansas State at least one more day.
Originally slated be part of the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Classic, both teams have found their opening weekend up in the air after Gonzaga and UCLA announced they would not be making the trip to Honolulu due to impending Hurricane Lane.
Kansas State arrived on the island on Tuesday and the Rainbow Wahine and Wildcats announced they would not play on Friday, but matches could be slated for Saturday and Sunday. Then, late Thursday night, Hawaii posted a tweet stating that Saturday was now off the table and a decision on a Sunday meeting would be made by the end of the day on Friday.
Due to Hurricane Lane, there will be no #HawaiiWVB matches on Fri, 8/24 & Sat, 8/25. A decision on any potential of a Sunday, Aug. 26 match between Hawaii and Kansas State will be made by end of business on Friday.

The initial decision for UCLA and Gonzaga not to travel caused waves in the history books as it ended a 38-year run of meetings between the Bruins and Rainbow Wahine on the island, including non-conference tournaments every year since 1988. Also in jeopardy is a streak of consecutive meetings dating to 1974.
Instead, the Bruins will renew a series with Gonzaga which dates to a Dec. 1, 1990, NCAA Tournament match. UCLA, which won that via sweep, will now face the Zags at 7 p.m. ET Saturday and 4 p.m. ET Sunday at the John Wooden Center.
