2017 FIVB BEACH VOLLEYBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – VIENNA

An all-German clash in the Round of 32 went in favor of Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude over Julia Grossner/Nadja Glenzke 2-0, (21-14, 21-12). Laboureur/Sude are the #2 seed in the tournament and proved it after this dominating performance.

The win moves Laboureur/Sude to the Round of 16, while Grossner/Glenzke are eliminated from the 2017 Vienna Beach World Championships.

Laboureur/Sude sent all but one serve to Grossner in the match, forcing her to hit. Only six balls hit the sand from Grossner, while Glenzke only had two. Grossner tried deep cross shots against the other German team but it proved to be ineffective.

On the attack, Laboureur put down eight kills using line shots and hitting the ball right around the blocks to find the sand. Sude mixed up her attack, going line and hard cross.

“We stuck to our tactics and did everything precise in the end. They had a little problem in side out and weren’t so precise,” said Sude.

Grossner/Glenzke’s match to Laboureur/Sude was their third match in the competition that was against another German team. After the match, Grossner joked that they were already preparing for the German Championships.

Up next for Laboureur/Sude is Finnish pair, Riikka Lehtonen and Taru Lahti-Liukkonen.
