Ligue A Week 1 Recap: Poitiers-Ajaccio Thriller and Greg Petty Injury

The first week of Ligue A play featured just a single match that extended to five sets, with Poitiers taking down GFC Ajaccio in an extra-points tiebreaker set that ended 23-21. Receiver/attacker Mohamed Al Hachdadi of Poitiers led all scorers with 36 points. His 7.2 points-per-set average also leads all Ligue A scorers after the first round of matches.

Chaumont VB 52 dropped the first frame to the Nantes-Reze side, but rebounded to win in four sets. Chaumont receiver/attacker Nikola Mijailović led all scorers with 20 points.All other round one matches went the minimum number of sets, with the presumptive favorite winning in each case.

The most significant injury in week one occurred in the Rennes-Paris match when Rennes 35 Volley’s receiver/attacker and former All-American for Lewis University Greg Petty went down a season-ending knee injury in just his second set with his new side.
