Ligue A Week 5 Recap: Top Half of Table Separated by Just 3 Points

0 Bill Stadick | November 17th, 2017 | French League, News, Pro Indoor

After five weeks of Ligue A play, the top six teams find themselves separated by just three points, with last year’s champions, Chaumont VB 52, having risen to the top of the table thanks to a road sweep of Tourcoing. Opposite Stephen Boyer recorded a team-high 23 points for the visitors. Up and down the table, the week was dominated by the road teams, with four of six matches going to the visiting side, including Stade Poitevin Volley Beach‘s (Poitiers) straight-set victory over Paris Volley. Mohamed Al Hachdadi led Poitiers with 24 points. The two home side victories were notable, however, with Arago de Sete registering a five-frame upset of Tours VB and Rennes 35 securing their first victory of the season by defeating Spacer’s Toulouse VB. Receiver/attacker Kamil Baranek, playing in his first match as a replacement for the injured Greg Petty, scored 14 points for Rennes. The must-see match of week six will be Saturday’s tilt between #2 Montpellier UC and #4 Tours. Look for “Watch Live” links on the day of the match.
